Cola Con and New York Comic Con

I’ll be at the Cola-Con Comic/Hip Convention this weekend in Colombia, SC. The event takes place at the Colombia Museum of Art. I’m pretty pumped to see this con get off the ground. Everyone from Preach Jacobs to 9th Wonder will be involved. Sanford Greene and 803 Studios have done a great job planning the event. My homeboy Rashad Doucet (@RashadDoucet) and I will be taking the trip down Friday morning. I’ll be tabling somewhere in the museum. I’m also looking forward to checking out the Heroes and Dragons comic shop. I need some new toys for my studio. I’ll be set with some SPKO v1’s, loads of Mini-Comics, Heavyweight Belt Bracelets, and Original Art. See you there!
I should know if I’ll be at New York Comic Con by next week. I’m still working some things around to figure if it’s feasible. It’s probably my favorite con on the east coast so we’ll see.
Working on my Signing Schedule for 2012 too. I’ve been contacting shops and I’m really getting a little Tour going. Any comic shops on the east coast you can recommend just let me know. I’m ready to hit the road!
Why Do You Do That?
I recently was asked why I try and draw pieces for reviews. It’s a pretty weird “all-over-the-place” answer actually. I think when it comes to promoting a creator owned project, you have to think outside of the box. I don’t really know if one image can sell an entire comic (or the idea of “said” comic) these days. The average consumer of music, art, etc. is overloaded with a bombardment of imagery each second. Plus, there are so many things I imagine involving the SPKO gang that I can’t squeeze into the comic (usually because of time). I never want someone to see SPKO and think that they’ve seen “this” before. Especially when I’m doing reviews different places about the same volume. I like the idea that when people view SPKO, there’s always a different image they’ll connect with the project.
And yeah, I’m a control freak so that has 75% to do with it too.
For example, when I was a kid (and before I realized how things truly worked), I always took notice of how Wolverine appeared in comics, t-shirts, video game covers, etc. In fact, you could replace Wolvie with Batman, Spiderman, Archie, Richie Rich etc. This is before I understood licensing or took into account that these characters were all being drawn by gazillion different artists. I just figured one unfortunate guy was working mad overtime! But I liked being able to connect all of those images to the same concept. It just seemed cool to me that I could be reading about this character one second and eat an ice-cream bar corresponding to that character the next.
Order Requests
After much delay, my site will be updated in the next month or so to finally accommodate PayPal orders I’ve called in some professional help to make sure it works and there aren’t any issues off the ground. I’m keeping track of everyone that’s contacted me so far and will send out a message when I can begin taking online orders. Send me a line if there’s something you’d like and I’ll add you to the list.
Yo! How Much For This? What About That?
I got a few questions regarding original art too. Here are my rates:
SPKO: Wrestler -o- Choice:
Chest Up Shot (8×11) -$25
Full Body Shot (8×11) - $50
2 or more characters (8×11) - $75 (standing, running, grappling, power-bombed, DDT’d, etc.)
All original art is inked. Send me a line and I’ll add you to the “list” as well.
Bedside Reading by Candlelight:
X-Men Schism (love Jason Aaron’s writing style), Justice League #1 (DC), Reed Gunther (it makes me feel like a kid all over again wishing I could ride a bear all over the new frontier)(Image), Octopus Pie v1 by Meredith Gran (Villard), Flight 8 (Villard)
The Lounge:
Jamming at the studio right now to Groove Armada.
That is all!
